16th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival Returns at Semua House KL: Spotlighting Sustainability through Cinema

16th International Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival Returns at Semua House KL: Spotlighting Sustainability through Cinema

The Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) is set to make a grand return for its 16th edition from 24th to 27th October 2024, at the newly revitalized Semua House in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Hosted by EcoKnights, a leading environmental NGO, KLEFF continues its mission of promoting sustainability through powerful storytelling. Since its inception in 2008, the festival has grown into a platform that celebrates creativity while raising awareness of pressing environmental challenges.

This year’s festival is made possible through the support of the Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN), whose focus on fostering a water-conscious society aligns with the festival’s theme of water sustainability. The collaboration underscores the power of film as a medium for driving change, as KLEFF showcases films that challenge viewers to think critically about environmental issues.

Representative from SPAN said that “Water is a crucial resource, and effectively managing it presents one of our greatest challenges. As a regulatory body in the water services industry, SPAN’s main responsibility is to raise public awareness about the value of water. To achieve this, SPAN has undertaken various initiatives focused on public education. This collaboration aims to further increase awareness about the importance of water conservation and empower everyone to take meaningful action in protecting this vital resource.”

KLEFF 2024 will take place at the iconic Semua House, a newly revamped landmark in the city’s historic textile district. With its modernized facilities and vibrant atmosphere, Semua House provides the perfect backdrop for the festival.

Film lovers can expect a diverse lineup of internationally acclaimed films, ranging from thought-provoking documentaries to short films and animations—all curated to inspire action towards environmental sustainability. In addition to film screenings, the festival will feature panel discussions and Q&A sessions with filmmakers, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage with creative minds who use the art of storytelling to advocate for the environment.

Beyond cinema, KLEFF 2024 promises a lively mix of activities, including live performances by local artists, eco-themed workshops, and the “Good Buy! Bazaar,” a marketplace showcasing artisanal crafts and sustainable products. These events aim to create a festival that not only entertains but also educates and inspires attendees to adopt more eco-conscious lifestyles.

KLEFF is also supported by AdobeCCC, and Mini Film Festival as their creative partners.

Fadly Bakhtiar, Festival Director, expressed his excitement: “KLEFF 2024 at Semua House is more than just films; it’s a gathering of passionate individuals united by a common goal—to create a sustainable future.”

Join us from 24th to 27th October 2024 for a celebration of cinema, sustainability, and community at the Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival.
