Sun Bus Tech Finalist for the 2024 Emerging Enterprise Sustainability Award

Sun Bus Tech Sdn Bhd (‘Sun Bus Tech’), a leader in bus and bus body manufacturing and a subsidiary of Sun Wah Group, is honoured to be named a finalist in the Emerging Enterprise Sustainability Award 2024 presented by The Business Times and OCBC. This prestigious recognition highlights Sun Bus Tech’s achievements and ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation in the public transportation industry.

With over 50 years of experience in the industry, Sun Bus Tech has established itself as a pioneering force in Malaysia’s bus and bus body manufacturing sector. Recently, the company celebrated the grand opening of its manufacturing facility in Johor, marking a significant milestone in its mission to lead the region in delivering eco-friendly and innovative public transportation solutions. The facility unveiled Sun Bus Tech’s development of the first aluminium-bodied Foxtron electric bus, showcasing the company’s technical prowess and capability to handle sophisticated projects for global leaders.

The awards ceremony was held at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, drawing entries from a broad mix of industries, including biotech, sustainable energy, food and beverage, and medical technologies. Over 650 entries were received, with more than 200 submissions from Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Indonesia. A total of 30 companies were selected as finalists for both the Emerging Enterprise and Sustainability Award categories, showcasing excellence across sectors.

As Malaysia’s only bus manufacturing company to be shortlisted, Sun Bus Tech stood out amidst tough competition from local and international contenders, receiving the award from Ms. Low Yen Ling, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry Singapore. This achievement underscores the company’s dedication to advancing the bus manufacturing industry through innovation and sustainable practices.

Sun Bus Tech’s commitment to sustainability is reinforced by its collaboration with Carrosserie HESS AG, a global leader in bus technology. By integrating advanced lightweight aluminium construction using Hess AG’s patented Co-Bolt® system, Sun Bus Tech continues to set new standards for durable, efficient, and eco-friendly public transportation solutions.

“We are deeply honoured to be recognised as a finalist in the 2024 Emerging Enterprise Sustainability Award,” said Shyan Phang, CEO of Sun Bus Tech. “This achievement is not just a reflection of our technical capabilities and strategic partnerships but also our unwavering commitment to driving sustainable innovation in public transportation. We are proud of our journey so far and look forward to continuing to lead the change towards a greener, more efficient future.”

Sun Bus Tech remains focused on growth, innovation, and sustainability as it explores new opportunities to redefine public transportation.
