Run the City, Redefine Your Limits with Taipei Marathon 2024

The Taipei Marathon once again ignited runners’ passion, welcoming marathon enthusiasts worldwide to participate in this annual event. Over 28,000 runners took part this year, making it one of the most exciting editions. Since its inception in 1986, the Taipei Marathon has become a highlight for many runners, recognised as the only city marathon in Taiwan certified with a World Athletics Gold Label and Elite Label, as well as the first globally to receive carbon footprint certification from the British Standards Institution. Held annually on the third Sunday of December, this marathon is not only the largest in the country but also a unique urban experience filled with the charm of Taipei.

The theme of the 2024 Taipei Marathon was “Redefine Your Limits.” Runners traversed a thoughtfully designed course through Taipei’s urban landscapes, exploring its rich history and modern flair while experiencing its unique culture. Starting from the Citizen Plaza in front of Taipei City Hall and ending at the Taipei Municipal Stadium, the race showcased the city’s distinct scenery, inspiring every runner to challenge themselves and push beyond their limits.

An Ideal Choice for Muslim Travellers

According to the 2024 Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI), Taiwan ranked third among non-OIC destinations, following Singapore and the United Kingdom, with Taipei earning the “Most Promising Muslim-Friendly Travel Destination City” award. Taipei offered over 60 Muslim-friendly accommodation and dining options. It featured prayer rooms or washing facilities at more than 30 tourist spots and public places, catering to the religious needs of Muslim travellers and ensuring they could fully enjoy their visit to Taipei.

Abe Chou, Director of the Taiwan Tourism Administration Office in Kuala Lumpur, states: “The Taipei Marathon was not just a sporting event; it was a journey filled with exploration and inspiration. We were happy to see Muslim runners and travellers participate, as Taipei has worked hard to become a Muslim-friendly city, offering comprehensive facilities and thoughtful services to ensure visitors from around the world felt at ease regarding religious needs and cultural experiences. By participating in this event, runners could challenge their limits while deeply experiencing Taipei’s diverse culture, rich history, and natural beauty. We warmly invited all marathon enthusiasts to discover the unique charm of this city!”

Full Marathon and Half Marathon Routes

This year’s event featured a full marathon (42.195 km) and a half marathon (21.0975 km), with both races starting at Taipei’s Citizen Plaza and finishing at the Taipei Municipal Stadium. Aid stations were set up every 5 km along the route to meet the runners’ fuelling needs, with water stations available every 2.5 km. Each station provided water and sports drinks, and some offered food and sponges, ensuring a smooth race experience for participants.

On the day before the official race, a special “Taipei Marathon Breakfast Run” was held, offering 3 km and 9 km options. This event invited families and those who don’t often participate in marathons to join in and enjoy the event atmosphere. Participants were able to run along the city’s fast lanes, warm up with fun, and experience the unique appeal of marathons in a relaxed and enjoyable way.
