The Kuans Debut CNY Music Video in Hong Kong, Celebrating Family and Cinematic Heritage

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has joined forces with Malaysia’s renowned family of multi-talented creatives, The Kuans (Jestinna, Mskuan, Perry, Papa Kuan, and Mama Kuan), for an uplifting 2025 Chinese New Year music video, “好運一萬年” (“My Lucky Lunar Song”) that was filmed in Hong Kong. Inspired by their recent family trip to Hong Kong, the music video features The Kuans role-playing to their favourite onscreen characters and dancing to captivating, synchronised choreography set against the vibrant streets and iconic locations of Hong Kong, many of which are deeply intertwined with beloved Hong Kong dramas and films. The music video creatively conveys the nuance of the lyrics of being kinder to yourself and making time for loved ones, for more luck to come your way through a humorous storyline of The Kuans being teleported to Hong Kong to take a break from their busy lifestyle and travelling as a family. This marks a significant milestone for The Kuans as they debut their first overseas Chinese New Year music video. The music video is set to release on Jestinna Kuan’s YouTube channel on Friday, 20 December 2024 at 12:00pm (MYT).

“We wanted a refreshing approach to our 2025 Chinese New Year music video by filming in Hong Kong,” said Jestinna Kuan. “It’s through our recent trip to Hong Kong that we realised that we don’t spend enough quality time as a family due to work commitments and travelling as a family felt so precious. We love Hong Kong’s Chinese New Year vibes and its mix of modernity and tradition, alongside its rich film history that made it the perfect setting for our Chinese New Year music video.”

The music video incorporated scenes inspired by classic Hong Kong films and TV dramas, taking viewers on a nostalgic visual journey to several of Hong Kong’s iconic locations.

The portrayal of characters came to life with the diverse looks that were put together by Mskuan, who was the stylist for the music video.

“I had a great time putting my love for fashion into the music video. I drew inspiration from the different films at each scene and added on my personal flavour, to combine relatability and chicness to the outfits,” opined Mskuan.

 Wong Cho Lam’s special cameo

While the focus of the music video is on the locations and the Kuans’ personal experiences, the video also features a special cameo appearance by Hong Kong entertainer Wong Cho Lam. Known for his comedic roles and beloved presence in Hong Kong’s entertainment scene, Wong Cho Lam adds a delightful touch to the video, further enhancing the fun and festive spirit.
