PropertyGuru Launches ‘Everyone Welcome’ Tag to Support Inclusive Renting in Malaysia

In celebration of Merdeka and Malaysia Day, PropertyGuru Malaysia officially rolls out the Everyone Welcome tag, a new search feature that promotes inclusivity in the rental market. This voluntary tag allows property agents and landlords to mark their listings as non-discriminatory, welcoming all potential tenants regardless of race, religion, gender, or background.

With the Everyone Welcome filter, renters can now identify inclusive listings at a glance, a meaningful tool designed to support fairer housing options in Malaysia. The feature is paired with existing platform safeguards including listing guidelines and reporting mechanisms for discriminatory, duplicate, and fake listings.

“Finding a home should always feel safe, fair, and transparent for everyone,” said Kenneth Soh, Country Manager, Malaysia – PropertyGuru and iProperty. “The Everyone Welcome tag reflects our belief that inclusivity is essential. As Malaysia’s leading property marketplace, we have a responsibility to build trust, lead by example, and empower more people to find homes where they feel truly welcome in Malaysia.”

According to findings by Architects of Diversity Malaysia (AOD) and Swayable, 60% of tenants reported experiencing racial discrimination when renting, pointing to lived experience as a driver of perception. AOD’s Omnibus survey revealed that while nearly 49.9% of respondents believe landlords should be allowed to screen tenants based on race, a growing share (31.6%) support fairer and more inclusive practices.

Early Response to the Everyone Welcome Tag

Since its initial launch in April 2025, the Everyone Welcome tag has seen encouraging uptake:

  • As of August 2025, 10% of active rental listings on PropertyGuru Malaysia carry the tag.
  • 2.62% of renters are using the filter during their search.

New Brand Film: Jauh Galaksi, Dekat Di Hati

In the spirit of Merdeka and Malaysia Day, PropertyGuru will also release a new film titled Jauh Galaksi, Dekat Di Hati on 15 August 2025. Set in outer space, the lighthearted short follows a group of Malaysians (and one very curious alien) as they reflect on what truly makes a place feel like home.

From the smell of nasi lemak to the sound of everyday Manglish, the film captures the soul of Malaysian life, even 680 light years away. As the characters reminisce about life in their kampung and how everyone’s welcome, an alien floats by and asks, “Even me?” One of them smiles, pulls out their phone, and shows how one can find inclusive listings on PropertyGuru Malaysia with the “Everyone Welcome” filter.

“With Jauh Galaksi, Dekat Di Hati, we wanted to reimagine the idea of home in a way that feels uniquely Malaysian, full of warmth, humour, and heart. Whether you are hundreds of kilometers away or just searching for a place to call your own, the film is a reminder that home is where you are accepted. That is the same spirit behind the Everyone Welcome tag: it is about making sure that every Malaysian feels seen, valued, and included when they search for a home,” said Kar Wai Low, Country Marketing Director, Malaysia & Thailand – PropertyGuru & iProperty.

As Malaysia celebrates another year of unity and progress, PropertyGuru continues to reflect on what it means to belong. Through features like the Everyone Welcome tag and stories that remind us of shared connection, the goal remains the same: to make home-finding more inclusive, thoughtful, and truly Malaysian.
