Things To Know About UiTMSAT-2, Marking UiTM’s Second Leap Into Space

From lecture halls to the edge of the cosmos, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has once again made history! Malaysia’s pride, UiTMSAT-2, successfully launched into orbit aboard Japan’s H3 F7 rocket from the Tanegashima Space Centre at 9 a.m. (Malaysia time), marking UiTM’s second nanosatellite mission and another breakthrough for ASEAN’s growing space ambitions.

The launch, conducted by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), was part of the HTV-X1 mission, a high-tech resupply operation for the International Space Station (ISS). But for Malaysians, this event meant far more; it was a moment of national pride and proof that our local universities can dream, build, and launch among the stars.

UiTMSAT-2 is Not the First Launch?

Blast from the past, UiTM’s nanosatellite is on its second mission now, while the first touched space in 2018. It’s time to shine, Malaysia! This is the moment of triumph for us and ASEAN. Under the ASEANSAT initiative, UiTM bravely led this project with full confidence.

From a Scratch to Success, Thank You Heroes!

Remember, victory sparks when multiple geniuses join forces with full dedication! A huge shoutout to the participants from the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (Philippines), the King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (Thailand), and the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech, Japan). Let the universe know their names!

Guess who leads this wonderful venture? It’s Dr Fatimah Zaharah Ali, a backbone to success itself! Aside from just a satellite launch, UiTMSAT-2 has been marked as the cradle of hyper-calibre researchers. Are you excited to see your future scientists? Or maybe you are the scientist.

Where Technology Meets Talent

You might be wondering why UiTM launched this nanosatellite. Well, here’s a little spark to ignite your curiosity. The main objective? Obviously, for Earth observation, specifically for the development of agriculture and disaster management.

Signal from space! The UiTMSAT-2 is fully equipped with an advanced optical camera and an Internet of Things (IoT) satellite-based communication. ASEAN scholars will use the collected data (from IoT) for training in space technology.

As a Malaysian, you should be proud of this achievement! UiTMSAT-2 is solid proof that Malaysian institutes are more than ready to nurture outstanding individuals. Let’s pierce the ozone again and mark our position beside the sun!
