AweGallery Is Pleased To Present Where We Belong, The Second Solo Exhibition By Local Watercolourist Lee Wee Xian.

A 36-year-old college Dean by profession, Wee Xian first turned to painting as a way to find balance amidst the demands of daily life. Over time, art became more than a refuge—it became a lifelong pursuit. Through this latest body of work, he invites viewers on a journey through familiar landscapes, cherished memories, and the enduring search for where we truly belong.

What’s Happening?

A century-old shophouse built on countless untold stories.

Hand-painted signage and typography that age gracefully with time.

A resting motorbike (Kapcai) at the corner of a heritage building.

These familiar scenes and places form the memories that shape watercolor artist Lee Wee Xian’s sense of home, identity, and belonging. Since the debut of Overture two years ago, Lee Wee Xian has continued his exploration of memory, place, and connection in his second solo exhibition, Where We Belong. Featuring 30 paintings, the exhibition revisits the places and moments that leave lasting impressions on our understanding of home and belonging. The exhibition runs from
8–22 July at Awe Gallery.

About Lee Wee Xian (The Artist)

Born in 1990 and raised in the historic city of Melaka, Lee Wee Xian is a college Dean and watercolor artist who has been balancing his dual roles as educator and artist for the past eight years.

He has been active in the watercolor scene, participating in exhibitions and showcasing his works in many countries, including the United States, China and Australia. Now based in Selangor, his artistic inspiration continues to draw from the heritage town—places he once called home.

In his second solo exhibition, Where We Belong, he collaborates with his older brother, Lee Wee Khuan, a surgeon who shares his passion for the arts and for him is photography. Early last year, the brothers embarked on a film photography journey, returning to their hometown and revisiting places filled with warmth and familiarity. Without prior planning, this spontaneous trip became a visual exploration of memory and home.

He then transformed the film photographs into 30 watercolor paintings, presented in his second solo exhibition, Where We Belong. The exhibition also includes photographic works from this brotherly collaboration.

Art enthusiasts, historians, and the public are invited to journey through places and memories that shape identity and belonging, seen through the eyes of Lee Wee Xian.
