The ocean covers more than 70 per cent of our planet, yet much of it remains unexplored. Beneath its surface lies an extraordinary world that regulates our climate, supports biodiversity and sustains life on Earth. As environmental challenges continue to grow, understanding these unseen ecosystems is the first step towards protecting them.
ArtScience Museum invites visitors to uncover these hidden worlds through Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath. A collaboration with one of the world’s leading ocean exploration organisations, OceanX, the exhibition takes visitors on a descent through the ocean’s depths, guided by extraordinary footage captured through OceanX’s state-of-the-art research vessel. These encounters unfold in dialogue with scientific research from the National University of Singapore alongside contributions from marine biologists, environmental scientists, researchers, creative technologists and artists. This multi-sensory exhibition blends art, science and technology to reveal a fragile, interconnected marine ecosystem.

Alongside the exhibition, the Sustainable Futures Film Festival 2026 (now until 31 August 2026) explores environmental urgency through a cinematic lens. Spanning three thematic strands, Uncharted Waters, Deep Imagination and Hidden Connections, the festival features daily screenings of documentaries including OceanXplorers (2024) and Blue Carbon: Nature’s Hidden Power (2023). Together, these programmes bring scientific insight and artistic expression into conversation, offering new perspectives on a rapidly changing world.
Across Marina Bay Sands, that same commitment extends beyond the museum through sustainability initiatives that quietly shape the way the integrated resort operates, reinforcing the idea that meaningful change is driven by both awareness and action.
Q&A with Marina Bay Sands’ Insiders

Meridith Beaujean Assistant Vice President of Sustainability and ESG, Marina Bay Sands | Adrian George Director of Programmes, Exhibitions and Museum Services at ArtScience Museum |
What is something beneath the surface of Marina Bay Sands that you wish more people knew about?
- Meridith Beaujean: Many people know Marina Bay Sands for its architecture, hospitality and entertainment, but beneath that is a longstanding commitment to sustainability that is embedded in the way we operate. It spans everything from the design of ArtScience Museum to the systems and technologies that quietly support energy and water efficiency across the property, as well as our partnerships that advance biodiversity and conservation. Much of this work happens behind the scenes, reflecting a consistent approach where sustainability is not an add-on, but part of how we build and operate at every level.
- Adrian George: I hope people discover that beneath the iconic building is an organisation genuinely committed to using culture as a force for positive change. At ArtScience Museum, our exhibitions go beyond presenting information, creating experiences that help people connect emotionally with ideas from art, science and storytelling. That connection is what leads to deeper awareness and real-world action.
When you were working on Into the Ocean, what feeling did you want visitors to carry with them after they leave?
- Adrian George: We wanted visitors to leave feeling that they could make a difference. That’s why the final Resurface gallery is probably my favourite part of the exhibition. After experiencing the ocean’s beauty and fragility, visitors can actively contribute by supporting seagrass restoration through our partnership with Meridith’s team and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It means the experience doesn’t end when you leave the museum. Most museums show you something and tell you something. We wanted to show you, tell you, and then actually do something about it, creating a real-world impact beyond our walls.
How does Marina Bay Sands weave sustainability into the guest experience without it ever feeling like a compromise?
- Meridith Beaujean: We don’t see sustainability and luxury as competing priorities. Luxury today is about quality, comfort and innovation, and we see sustainability as something that helps us deliver all three. A good example is our use of technology in the renovated rooms. The systems learn guest preferences and automatically adjust things like temperature and lighting, which helps reduce energy use while still making sure the experience feels effortless and comfortable. For us, the best sustainability solutions are often the ones guests never notice because they simply make the experience better.
Why does it matter for Marina Bay Sands to not only act sustainably, but also contribute to the wider conversation around it?
- Meridith Beaujean: As an integrated resort that welcomes millions of visitors every year, we have a responsibility to inspire wider awareness and action. That is why we value collaborations with partners like ArtScience Museum. Through exhibitions such as Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath and programmes like Sustainable Futures Film Festival, we can translate complex environmental concepts into experiences that resonate emotionally with our audiences. Our hope is to empower visitors to leave with a deeper understanding of our shared responsibility for the planet.
Did You Know?
Behind the scenes, Marina Bay Sands collects water condensate from 3,000 air conditioning units across its three hotel towers, saving an average of 77,000 litres of water every day. Rather than going to waste, this water is reused to irrigate the lobby landscaping and support day to day operations such as washing floors and bins in the casino. It is an example of how sustainability often works quietly beneath the surface, where small everyday actions can collectively make a meaningful difference.
