Melbourne Comes Alive This Spring With Flower Fields, Festivals And Scenic Escapes

Spring is the perfect time to explore Melbourne as the city and its surrounding regions come alive with colourful blooms, outdoor adventures and unique experiences.

As winter fades away, Victoria transforms into a picture-perfect destination filled with tulip fields, cherry blossoms, cultural festivals, scenic trails and cosy stays under the stars.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing countryside escape, a romantic getaway or an adventure-filled road trip, Melbourne and regional Victoria have plenty to offer this season.

Step Into A World Of Flowers

Nothing captures the beauty of spring quite like fields covered in colourful blooms, and Victoria is home to some of the most stunning floral experiences.

Millions Of Tulips At Tesselaar Tulip Festival

Located less than an hour from Melbourne, the Tesselaar Tulip Festival returns from 12 September to 11 October, bringing more than a million tulips in full bloom.

Beyond the colourful flower fields, visitors can enjoy themed weekends featuring live entertainment, including Turkish Days, Dutch Days, All That Jazz Weekend, Rock the Fields, Children’s Days and an Irish Weekend.

The festival also offers international food stalls, market shopping, tractor train rides and plenty of photo opportunities.

Cherry Blossoms And Orchard Experiences At CherryHill Orchards

Over at CherryHill Orchards in Yarra Valley, visitors can witness cherry trees covered in delicate blossoms during the short four-week blooming period.

This year’s spring programme features:

Bloom & Graze (12 & 13 September)
Visitors can enjoy artisan markets, regional wines, seasonal food, live acoustic performances and more than 30 local brands showcasing the best of Yarra Valley.

Blossom Festival (18 September – 4 October)
The orchard transforms into a beautiful spring backdrop with daily live music, family activities, food vendors and photo spots surrounded by blooming cherry trees.

Comedy in the Vines (22 – 25 October)
A unique open-air comedy festival combining live performances, wine, food and the stunning Yarra Valley scenery.

For those who want to experience more than one floral attraction, the Yarra Valley Floral Day Pass allows visitors to enjoy both Tesselaar Tulip Festival and CherryHill Orchards, complete with a guided tractor ride and CherryHill spritzer.

Explore Nature Beyond Melbourne

Spring is also the perfect season to venture outdoors and discover Victoria’s natural landscapes.

Discover Waterfalls And Scenic Trails

The winter rain brings Victoria’s waterfalls to life, making spring one of the best times to explore them.

Among the highlights are:

  • Woolshed Falls near Beechworth
  • Erskine Falls in Otway National Park, dropping 30 metres through lush rainforest
  • MacKenzie Falls in the Grampians
  • Trentham Falls near Daylesford, one of Victoria’s tallest single-drop waterfalls

For hiking enthusiasts, trails such as the Peaks Trail in the Grampians and George Bass Coastal Walk on Phillip Island offer breathtaking views, while cyclists can explore the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, stretching through alpine landscapes, wineries and local breweries.

Sleep Under The Stars With A Glamping Escape

For travellers looking for something different, regional Victoria offers unique glamping experiences surrounded by nature.

In Gippsland, guests can stay in private stargazing bubbles at Bubble Retreats, overlooking the coastline towards Wilsons Promontory.

Nearby, Metung Hot Springs combines lakeside accommodation with relaxing hot spring experiences and dedicated stargazing areas.

Other unique stays include glass geodesic domes among the vineyards in Yarra Valley, treetop eco glamping in the High Country, safari tents in Phillip Island and cosy mountain stays around the Grampians.

Hit The Road For A Spring Adventure

A road trip is one of the best ways to experience Victoria’s changing landscapes.

Travellers can explore routes such as the Great Southern Touring Route, which connects the Great Ocean Road, Grampians and spa country, or the Go Beyond Melbourne route, covering destinations including Yarra Valley, Dandenong Ranges, Phillip Island and the Mornington Peninsula.

For a more unique stop, the Cornella Canola Walk near Heathcote and Bendigo offers a golden landscape of blooming canola fields, complete with a viewing platform and nearby wine, beer and woodfired pizza experiences.

From colourful flower fields and scenic waterfalls to stargazing stays and unforgettable road trips, Melbourne and regional Victoria offer plenty of reasons to plan a spring getaway.
