Khabib Nurmagomedov named his rival Conor McGregor one of the best lightweight fighters in the UFC. In fact, the former UFC champion also supported McGregor to win the title he had won before if he managed to overthrow Dustin Poirier, in January.
Before this, Khabib defeated McGregor and the Irish fighter demanded that a rematch be held again.
However, the rematch could not be held when Khabib announced his retirement after recording a 29-0 record through a victory over Justin Gaethje, last October.
When asked who was the greatest fighter still in the lightweight division after he retired, Khabib named McGregor and Poirier in the top three list.
“Top three (lightweight) fighters right now?” Khabib said.
“Poirier, McGregor, and [Islam] Makhachev. He is not in the top-five yet, but those are the best fighters, “he added.
He also believes the winners of the McGregor and Poirier clash at UFC 257 on January 23 will replace him as lightweight champion.
“My belt will be taken by the winner of Dustin and Conor,” Khabib continued.
