Did you know that car side mirrors have other functions and not only for you to look at the car behind you? Not only are side mirrors used for detecting blind spots, but they can also be used as a ruler to help you park!
TikTok user @beng_cf1_oe shared a video on his TikTok sharing the other functions of car side mirrors that you can utilize. Let us take a look at his tips!
1. How to adjust side mirrors
If you did not know how to adjust your side mirrors @beng_cf1_oe shows you how in his TikTok video. It is really easy to do!
For your driver-side mirror, you will need to adjust until the bottom-left corner of your side mirror is aligned with your car handle.
This is the same for your passenger side mirror. This is important to reduce the number of blind spots during driving.
2. How to know the safe distance for changing lanes
Have you ever been in a situation where you are driving and you do not know whether it is safe for you to change lanes? Well, there is an easy way for you to know!
All you have to do is imagine there is a line in the middle of your side mirror. Refer to the image below:
If you are changing lanes and you are not sure if it is safe, refer to the positioning of the car behind you.
If the car is on the left side of the mirror (the green area), then it is safe for you to switch lanes. However, if the car is on the right side of the mirror (the red area), then it is not safe for you to change lanes.
3. How to determine the distance when side parking
Sometimes it can be difficult to determine the distance between the curb and the car when you are reversing. @beng_cf1_oe shares a simple way to do so.
What you need to do is you need to align the door handle in the side mirror to the curb when you are reversing.
When you do so, the distance between the curb and your car will be at a safe distance. Take a look at the image below if you are wondering how to do it.
4. Determining the distance between the curb and in front of your car
Have you ever tried parking your car but do not know how much distance is left between your car and the curb in front of it? You risk overextending, causing you to scratch your car bumper with the curb.
One way of determining the distance is by aligning the bottom of your side mirror with the top of the curb like in the image below. If you do so, your car will be safe from hitting the curb.
