Yesterday, there was an incident where 30 film crews from Singapore got trapped in Tempurung Cave in Malaysia. This situation reminds us of Tham Luang Cave Rescue, which has been adapted into a popular series on Netflix — Thai Cave Rescue. It must have been a gruesome experience for the victims.
Obstacles come uninvited. Therefore, one must always be prepared if something horrifying like this happens.
According to John Hudson, being trapped in a cave sometime can be a life-and-death situation. Hudson is a survival instructor, broadcaster, writer, public speaker, and training consultant. He was the one who created the UK Military’s survival manual.
Let’s go through some tips from Hudson in case something like this befalls us.
Basic Tips If Trapped In A Cave
1) Letting someone know what you are up to
- There is always a risk when going to a cave. Therefore, make sure to let someone know where you are heading. Besides that, inform the expected time you are going to be back.
2) Know who to call
- Do some research and write down numbers you can turn to in case of emergencies.
3) Change your state of mind
- Always believe that there is always hope. Know that the rescuers are trying their best to help those who got trapped in a cave.
4) Do not panic
- We hear this all the time when something unwanted happens. Try to stay calm.
5) Maintain group cohesion
- Stick together with your teammates. Be there for one another.
Above are the five basic tips if you are trapped in a cave. For a bonus tip, one must learn the fundamentals of diving in case the cave is flooded. Nevertheless, the rescuers will always teach you how to do so if you still do not have the knowledge of that.
