Thailand Declares State Of Emergency To Control Covid-19 Outbreak

The Thailand prime minister said his government had agreed to declare a state of emergency to take strict measures to control the coronavirus outbreak.

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha said his Cabinet had agreed at its weekly meeting to put a one-month emergency into effect on Thursday. It will give the government enforcement powers not usually available.

Thailand before this reported three more COVID-19 deaths, which raised the cumulative death toll to four and the total number of confirmed cases to 827.

Thailand has also closed major public venues like shopping malls in Bangkok and five nearby provinces. That is Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakarn, Samut Songkram, and Nakhon Pathom for 22 days. It starts from March 22 to April 12 to contain the disease.

The closure of schools, universities and tuition centers, entertainment outlets and sports venues from March 18 to 31 has been extended to April 12.
