COVID-19: 188 New Cases In Singapore, 12 Imported, One In Community

SINGAPORE, Aug 10 — Singapore has reported a total of 188 new cases of COVID-19 for the past 24 hours, including 12 imported cases and one case within the community.

No new clusters were identified yesterday, and the latest cases bring the infection tally for the republic to 55,292.

According to brief data released here by the republic’s Ministry of Health (MOH) today, all the imported cases involve those placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore and the only case in the community involves a Singaporean.

The vast majority of the cases involve work permit holders currently under quarantine.

In its full data released late yesterday, the ministry said the testing of all workers in the dormitories was completed on Aug 7, with some of the test results still being processed.

The MOH said about 23,500 workers were still serving out their isolation period at quarantine facilities.

“These workers will be tested when their isolation ends, and we expect the case counts to remain high in the coming days, before tapering down thereafter,” it said.

As at noon yesterday, Singapore has classified 748 of the reported cases as imported, 2,192 as community cases and 52,164 as dorm residents.

A total of 48,915 patients or about 89 per cent of the cumulative figure of cases have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities here.

Meanwhile, 135 confirmed cases remain in hospital but none is in the intensive care unit.

A total of 6,027 patients who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19, have been isolated and cared for at community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 in the republic.
