3.2 Billion People Will Be Affected by Shortage of Drinking Water by 2050 – United Nations Report

2020 certainly has been a very tough year for our earth. Just in eight months, the world has to face the worldwide pandemic, wildfire in the U.S., the melting of the ice sheets in the Arctic, and many other climate crises.

Climate change has caused a lot of global disasters. It happens not only because of natural reactions but could mainly be because of humans being selfish to get their own profits.

According to the new United Nations report, over 3.2 billion people will be affected by water shortage. The increase in water shortage could be because of the loss of glacier mass.

Almost 60 percent of people will live in places with insufficient water in the next 30 years. Because of climate change, about 1.9 billion to 3.2 billion will be affected by the water shortage by 2050, according to the UN report.

The World Meteorological Organization said that the past decade has been the warmest on record. The organization just released a multi-department assessment of the latest climate science data.

The supply of freshwater is threatened by the warmer temperature that leads to a reduction in the world’s glaciers and ice sheets. It is reported that countries in Middle Eastern nations such as Kuwait and Egypt are likely to face water stress and drought risk.
