Another Disney character has been turned into a live-action movie. Mulan, a character that depicts the journey of a fearless girl to disguise as a man in order to save her father.
A live-action movie of the character was scheduled to release in April this year. Due to COVID-19, Disney has to postpone the release date. They recently released the movie worldwide on September 4.
Disney’s movies have always brought excitement to the fans, but not with this new movie. Pro-Democracy activists are urging the people to boycott the live-action Mulan movie.
The movie faces boycott because of the main actress’s stance over the Hong Kong police. The actress, Liu Yifei made a post on her social media in August 2019 showing her support over the police with a caption, “I support the Hong Kong police. You can all attack me now. What a shame for Hong Kong.”
Liu later toned down her previous statement during an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter”. She said, “It’s obviously a very complicated situation and I’m not an expert.”
The activists interpreted the actress’s post as supporting the police brutality. They are now urging the people who believe in human rights to boycott the movie. It is a challenge for Disney as #BoycottMulan has become trending on Twitter more than the movie review itself.
