The numbers of positive cases for Covid-19 have been different all around the world. There are some places where the number keeps decreasing per day while there are also some places where the number of positive cases keeps increasing day by day. This increase in number has brought many negative consequences towards that place and also all the citizens that live there. This terrible fate has occurred in India where the number of positive cases surges.
The need for oxygen tanks is very crucial for Mr. Sethia’s SS Hospital and at the Research Centre in Bhiwandi . This is because there are only two of the four tanks of liquid oxygen that were still full. The hospital is filled only with 50 beds to be used and 44 of them have been occupied by Covid-19 patients. To make the situation worse, all of the patients are in need of the piped oxygen from the tanks so that they are able to breathe. The oxygen tank that is supposed to be used for nine hours can only be used for six hours because of the overwhelming number of patients. Sadly, all Mr. Sethia’s dealers had run out of supplies for oxygen tanks.
Mr. Sethia have called 10 dealers and four hospitals in and around Mumbai to ask for oxygen throughout the night. Unfortunately, nobody could help him to get the supplies of an oxygen tank. He then finally managed to get 20 large cylinders from another hospital around 2 in the morning. The hospital is located 30km away from his place. Because there were no other vehicles available, the ambulances from his ambulance did five trips all night long to get the oxygen tank. Four people have to work round the clock at the hospital to obtain supplies from any maker who can send a truck of liquid oxygen for the tanks or any dealer who can spare a cylinder. Mr. Sethia said, “Now I have enough oxygen for the next 12 hours”, “We are firefighting every day. The battle is to get some oxygen anyhow”.
The same situation occurred in many governments and also private hospitals all over India. For example, there were reports of four Covid-19 patients dead at the hospital in central Madhya Pradesh state because of a lack of adequate oxygen. In one particular private hospital Chidwara, doctors said that it was difficult to provide oxygen to regular patients. Dr. Danish Khan said, “It’s a very tense situation”. He also added, “If we can’t get adequate oxygen in time, we will have to stop taking patients”.
