Why Muslims Should Read Surah Al-Kahf Every Friday? Here Are 3 Lessons to Learn

It’s Friday, everyone! For Muslims, there is this specific surah which the Prophet suggesting us to recite, which is surah Al-Kahf. The Prophet (peace be upon Him) said: “Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine under his feet to heaven, illuminating it until the Day of Judgment and it will be forgiven him what he did between the two Fridays.” Narrated Ibn Mardaweh, according to Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them.

Apart from receiving all the rewards by reciting the surah, it is best if we are able to grab the lessons in one of the stories from the surah, the story of the people in the cave. Here are three lessons that can be learned from the story shared by the famous Islamic speaker, Nouman Ali Khan.

1. Youth plays important role in society

Allah highlights the youths in this story. In this story, the youths ran away into the cave to save their belief, while everyone in their society has deviated from the truth. In verse 13, “It is We who relate to you, [O Muhammad], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.”

The youths are believed to hold important positions in society. That is why it is important for us to stay on the right path as Allah will increase us in His guidance. Great youths can change their society to become better.

2. The religion doesn’t make you an outcast of the world

In verse 19, after they had woken up from their sleep in the cave, “They said, “Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious.”

Nouman said that this shows that even though the youths have a strong belief in their religion, it doesn’t make them an outcast from the world. Being religious doesn’t mean that you can’t have a normal life like anybody else.

3. There is always a purpose in everything

Everything we do in this world must have a purpose. We didn’t do anything just by chance. We don’t just live in this world without a purpose. It is a waste if we learn Islam or anything else without knowing the purpose of learning it. Know your purpose and you’ll be more focused on what you should be doing.
