An ice cream float is a beverage consisting of ice cream placed in a soft and fizzy beverage. One of the most popular types of the drink is root beer. The origins of ice cream float date back to the 19th century. It was created by Robert Green in Philadelphia, a soda shop operator who ran out of cream and decided to use ice cream instead.

Soon, his daily income increased from $ 6 to $ 600. With the popularity of ice cream floats, there are many variations that have been created such as chocolate ice cream soda, coke floats, purple cow, butterbeer, and Boston cooler.

6) Affogato

The original Affogato combines two Italian classics namely a freshly brewed espresso shot and a spoonful of vanilla or fior di latte gelato. Affogato translates as ‘drowning’, referring to the process of preparation in which steamed espresso is generously poured over a spoonful of gelato.

The popularity of affogato has resulted in many variations of the original and may include anything from different flavors of gelato, or the addition of crushed almonds and biscotti. Whether served in a cup or dessert glass, affogato can be slowly sipped or eaten with a spoon and is best enjoyed after a big meal.

5) Gelato al Pistacchio

Pistachio is one of the most well-known Italian gelato flavors. Being the mainstay of every gelateria, in its original form, this frozen food combines pistachio paste with the classic base of milk, cream, eggs, and sugar. Occasionally, crushed and roasted pistachios can be added, but the basic texture should always be dense and creamy.

Due to the high price of pistachio and pistachio paste, many gelaterias currently choose cheaper substitutes. But the pistachios that are said to be the best are those grown in a small town in Sicily, Bronte.

4) Ice Cream Sandwich

The ice cream sandwich is a popular American dessert that originated in New York City in 1899. It is said to have been created by an unknown stroller seller in Bowery who paired vanilla ice cream between two thin wafers. This food is so popular that sellers don’t have time to make changes, so he charges a penny per ice cream sandwich.

Currently, ice cream sandwiches are not only made with wafers and cookies, there are many types available with brioche, waffles, croissants, and even churros.

3) Banana Split

Banana Split is a classic dessert consisting of long sliced bananas garnished with a tablespoon of strawberry ice cream, vanilla, and chocolate. Special garnishes include nuts, fruits, whipped cream, and cherries. This dessert is traditionally served in a dish called ‘boat’.

It was created in 1904 by David Strickler, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania who wanted to make something ‘different’ for a college student who one day entered a pharmacy where he worked as an intern. The pharmacy often provides soda fountains where customers can enjoy a soda or frozen food for just a few cents.

2) Dondurma

Dondurma or known as the Turkish ice cream is believed to originate from the city of Maraş and what really sets it apart from other types of ice cream is its resistance to melting and very dense chewy texture. This quality is produced by adding two thickening agents to a mixture of milk and basic sugar, namely Arab gum, also known as mastic resin, and salep which is a type of flour made from the roots of early purple orchids.

In fact, in the Kahramanmaraş region, the ice cream usually contains much more than usual salep, which is why it is sometimes called dondurma kesme from Turkish word kesmek, which means to cut – and that is why this variety of ice cream is usually eaten with a knife and fork.

1) Ice Cream Sundae

Sundae is one of the most widely served ice cream-based desserts in the United States. Sundae ice cream is an ice cream that comes with a sauce or syrup, usually served in a bowl. The most popular sundae varieties are chocolate caramel, butterscotch, and strawberry.

Cherries, dairy creams, and nuts are the most common additions to these popular foods. Food historians still argue about the origin of sundae ice cream, but there are three theories that remain popular. The first says it was made in Illinois, where the law prohibits the sale of soda water on Sundays.
