Malaysian Singer Choo Hao Ren Apologizes And Took Down His Controversial Music Video

Recently, a particular music video has gone viral throughout social media but it was for a very wrong reason. The music video is by a Malaysian singer and actor named Choo Hao Ren and the title of the music video is “White Doll”. “White Doll” is about a girl who got bullied by her classmates for being very tanned and a boy who is obsessed with whitening products and the fairness of his own skin.

Unfortunately, the video has received a lot of backlash since with netizens calling Hao Ren out for the usage of brownface or even blackface just for the sake of promoting the fair products. It is The Snowbebe product.

After all the backlash that he received, he has posted an apology video on his YouTube channel on the 26th of January 2020. In the particular video, he apologized again if anyone was offended by the video. However, he added that his intention was to emphasize taking care of the female leads’ sunburned skin and also to show the protagonist finally being with the girl despite her still being tanned.

Choo Hao Ren said, “I never intended to touch on racism topics. We all live in a multi-racial country and I am still learning every day. I absolutely do not support racial discrimination”.
