Wonder Woman 1984 is a 2020 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character that is Wonder Woman. It is actually the sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman and the ninth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Patty Jenkins from a script she wrote with Geoff Johns and Dave Callaham, based on a story by Johns and Jenkins.
Set in the year 1984 and it is during the Cold War, the film follows Diana and her past love that is Steve Trevor as they face off against Max Lord and also Cheetah.

The movie is about an incident that happened in the year 1984. After saving the world in Wonder Woman (2017), the immortal Amazon warrior that is Princess Diana of Themyscira finds herself trying to stay under the radar, working as an archaeologist at the Smithsonian Museum. With the memory of the brave U.S. pilot, Captain Steve Trevor etched on her mind, Diana Prince becomes embroiled in a sinister conspiracy of global proportions when a transparent, golden-yellow citrine gemstone catches the eye of the power-hungry entrepreneur, Maxwell Lord.
Now, as a dear old friend from the past miraculously enters the picture, and Barbara Minerva, Diana’s insecure gemologist colleague gives in to desire, suddenly, deceit, greed, and false promises catapult Maxwell into the limelight. More and more, cataclysmic events push the world to the brink, and emotionally vulnerable Diana must address a cruel dilemma.
What Can Be Said About ‘Wonder Woman 1984’
It was definitely a thrilling breath of fresh air, both within the darker realm of DC Comics adaptations and the larger context of bloated summer blockbusters. This movie offered equal parts muscle and heart, with a perfect tonal balance between transporting action and gentle humor, dazzling spectacle, and charming romance. Crucially at its center was the impossibly charismatic Gal Gadot, who was more than just a gorgeous and statuesque stunner. She radiated goodness, light, and hope in a way that was infectious, that made you believe in the power of superheroes beyond facile platitudes about doing what’s right and protecting mankind.
The strong cast and performances help to elevate a script which at times feels like DC playing it too safe. A straightforward plot centers on the hunt for a magical gizmo known as the Dreamstone, which grants the user any wish they desire, including Diana’s wish for Steve to ‘return’.
