World Rare Disease Day is actually celebrated to indeed celebrate people living with rare diseases and their families. As stated by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Malaysia would define a rare disease as which is life-threatening or even would cause chronic disability. Many people definitely need better exposure to understand more about this.

This specific effort is very great for them to do because there are still not enough people that still do not know about rare diseases. These are 5 facts that you need to know about rare diseases.

5 facts to know about these rare diseases according to the Ministry of Health Malaysia:

  1. There are indeed a total of 6,000 to 8,000 different types of rare diseases to know.
  2. 75% of the patients are actually children.
  3. 30% of the patients would pass away before they could reach the age of 6 years old.
  4. 80% of rare diseases may be caused by genetic factors.
  5. Other factors could be bacterial infection, allergic, and also surrounding.
