A trip down memory lane
Sony Computer Entertainment sold the PlayStation, also known as the PS1/PS One, as a home video game system.
On December 3, 1994, Japan releases the PS1. Then On September 9, 1995, in North America. Later, On September 29, 1995, in Europe. Lastly on November 15, 1995, in Australia.
The system’s success may be attributed to its wide selection of games, well-known franchises, affordable retail pricing, and strong marketing aimed at young people, who were led to believe that the console was the best option for both themselves and their parents and siblings.
The PlayStation was home to several successful series, including Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, and Final Fantasy, all of which inspired a large number of sequels.
Sony discontinued the PlayStation and all PlayStation games on March 23, 2006, more than eleven years after the console’s initial introduction and just over a year before the arrival of the PlayStation 3.
Despite this, PlayStation games continued to sell until the release of the PlayStation 3. There were a total of 3,061 PlayStation game releases, with 967 million copies sold.
