Massive Space Storm Has The Potential To Cause ‘Internet Apocalypse’

Experts have warned that over the next decade, a massive space storm might cause an interruption. The interruption can keep everyone off the internet for months and even years.

According to Daily Star, within the next ten years, there’s a possibility that a catastrophic storm in space would trigger an “internet apocalypse”.

Scientists believe that if it were to take place, it would knock out satellites and power lines. It would leave people without communication for months or perhaps years.

Besides, tree rings are used for the first time to make a map of the unknown, unpredictable, and disastrous cosmic event.

Moreover, Dr. Benjamin Pope, of the University of Queensland in Australia, said: “Based on available data, there’s roughly a 1% chance of seeing another one within the next decade.

“But we don’t know how to predict it or what harms it may cause. These odds are quite alarming, and lay the foundation for further research.”

For your information, Australian researchers used tree rings as “snapshots” of Earth’s history.

Miyake Events

In addition, Dr. Pope said: “These huge bursts of cosmic radiation, known as Miyake Events, have occurred approximately once every thousand years but what causes them is unclear.

“The leading theory is they are huge solar flares. We need to know more because if one of these happened today, it would destroy technology including satellites, internet cables, long-distance power lines and transformers.

“The effect on global infrastructure would be unimaginable,” he added.
