PM Anwar Unveils People-Centric Measures: RM100 Cash Aid, Lower Petrol Prices, & More
In a highly anticipated address to the nation, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today unveiled a series of impactful initiatives aimed at easing the cost of living, boosting the economy, and strengthening public welfare under the Kerajaan MADANI framework.
The announcements cover key areas such as financial assistance, wage policy, fuel subsidies, public healthcare, and national economic growth. Here’s a breakdown of the major highlights from the Prime Minister’s speech:
1) RM100 Cash Aid for Every Malaysian Adult
As part of the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) initiative, the government will provide a one-off RM100 cash aid to all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above. The aid will be credited directly through MyKad, making the process seamless and accessible for all.
This marks the first time in history a nationwide cash assistance includes all adult Malaysians, regardless of income level.
2) Minimum Wage Raised to RM1,700
In a move to address income inequality and improve living standards, the national minimum wage will increase to RM1,700, fully effective on 1 August 2025.
This increase reflects the government’s commitment to fair wages and economic dignity for workers amid rising living costs.
3) RON95 Fuel Subsidy Set at RM1.99 per Litre
The government also announced the introduction of targeted fuel subsidies for RON95 petrol, bringing the price down to RM1.99 per litre. This is expected to benefit approximately 18 million Malaysians, easing transportation costs across the board.
Details on subsidy targeting mechanisms will be disclosed by end of September, with assurance that no rakyat will be left behind.
4) 15 September Declared as Additional Public Holiday
In conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations, 15 September 2025 has been declared as an additional national public holiday. This move is expected to give Malaysians time to travel and participate in patriotic events while supporting the local tourism economy.
5) Over 4,000 New Healthcare Positions to Be Filled
The Ministry of Health (KKM) is expediting the recruitment of 4,352 positions nationwide, including contract doctors, by the end of 2025. This is seen as a strategic response to healthcare demands post-pandemic and aims to improve public health services nationwide.
6) Electricity Bills Down for 85% of Households
Good news for domestic users, 85% of Malaysians will enjoy a reduction in their July electricity bill, with savings of up to 14% compared to the first half of 2025. This move provides direct cost relief for everyday households.
7) Sejahtera MADANI Launched to Eradicate Poverty
A new joint effort between the government and corporate sectors called Sejahtera MADANI has been launched to combat hardcore and chronic poverty. The initiative is part of a broader mission to build an inclusive, resilient nation.
8) Higher Paddy Purchase Price
The paddy floor price has been raised to RM1,500 per tonne, giving farmers a fairer return for their efforts. This aims to support the agricultural sector while ensuring food security for the nation.
9) RM15 Billion Allocated for STR and SARA 2025
Financial assistance under the STR (Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah) and SARA programs will be increased to RM15 billion in 2025, the largest allocation ever for direct cash aid. This measure will continue to uplift B40 and M40 households, ensuring broad financial support during economic recovery.
10) Toll Hikes Suspended for 10 Major Highways
To cushion travel expenses, toll rate hikes for 10 major highways have been postponed, with the government absorbing over RM500 million in costs. This move ensures more affordable travel for all Malaysians during festive seasons and daily commutes.
11) Record-Breaking Investments & Economic Growth
Malaysia achieved a record-breaking RM384 billion in approved investments in 2024, a 17% increase from the previous year. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that this momentum will continue into 2025, especially with a 4.4% GDP growth in Q1, and a projected 4.5% growth in Q2.
Moving Forward with Hope
In closing, PM Anwar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to build a just, inclusive and economically strong Malaysia, where the rakyat’s wellbeing comes first.
“These initiatives are not merely numbers or announcements, they are about dignity, fairness, and lifting every Malaysian,” he said.
As Malaysia continues navigating global uncertainties and domestic challenges, the latest initiatives reflect a government focused on putting people first. Ensuring no Malaysian is left behind.
