If you’re heading to KLIA for drop-offs or pick-ups, pay attention, the rules have changed, and the consequences can hit your wallet hard.
KLIA has officially launched the Vehicle Access Management System (VAMS) on 1 December, a major upgrade designed to stop traffic congestion and block unauthorized vehicles from lingering at the kerbside.
This isn’t a soft rollout.
This is strict enforcement.
With Visit Malaysia 2026 approaching, the airport is tightening control to keep traffic flowing and prevent chaos at the arrival halls. That means every second your vehicle spends at the kerbside now matters.
Only 10 Minutes Allowed
Any vehicle staying beyond the 10-minute limit will face hefty penalties. No exceptions, no excuses.
Your time starts the moment you enter and the system will calculate your duration when you hit the exit barrier.
If you overstay? Prepare to pay more than you expect.
There will be a digital screen displaying your number plate if you ever stay beyond the limits.
Rest assured, drivers. KLIA is still mindful of every guest’s circumstances. If you need to stay for more than 10 minutes, these should be the correct spots for you to wait:
- Short-Term Car Park – 15 minutes of free parking
- Long-Term Car Park – 30 minutes of free parking
- KLIA Public Waiting Area – a totally free waiting zone
