Giddy Up! Hong Kong Is Bringing All the “Ong” Vibes This Chinese New Year

Malaysians looking for a festive getaway this Lunar New Year, pack your cameras, Hong Kong is going full-on celebration mode for the Year of the Horse. Think dazzling night parades, flower markets bursting with blooms, temple blessings, and even thrilling horse racing. Basically, non-stop “good fortune energy.”

Floats, Fireworks & Global Swagger

The showstopper? The Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade on 17 February, kicking off at 8 PM. Starting at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and weaving through Canton, Haiphong, and Nathan Roads, the parade promises a visual feast under the theme “BEST FORTUNE. WORLD PARTY.”

Expect illuminated floats, horse-themed glitz, and performances from around the globe:

Iconic brands join the fun too, Cathay celebrates 80 years, Disneyland HK hits 20, and McDonald’s HK marks its 50th. Plus, debut floats from the Hong Kong Brand Toy Association, Panda Friends from Ocean Park, and sparkling horse installations by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Selected floats will stay on display at Kai Tak Sports Park from 18–26 February for that extra Insta-worthy moment.

Citywide Festivities You Can’t Miss

Beyond the parade, Hong Kong is basically a Lunar New Year playground. From 11–17 February, flower markets like Victoria Park and Fa Hui Park turn into a festival of blooms, treats, and souvenirs.

On 19 February, the Year of the Horse Raceday at Sha Tin Racecourse brings the thrill of horses with a side of festive entertainment. And for those chasing blessings? Hit up the Well-Wishing Festival in Lam Tsuen (17 Feb–3 Mar) or iconic temples like Wong Tai Sin, Che Kung, and Kwun Yum for a dose of good luck.
