KLANG, 26 May 2026 – Ahead of the upcoming Hari Raya Aidiladha festive season, which coincides with the school holidays and a long holiday weekend, West Coast Expressway (WCE) urges all motorists to prioritize safety and plan their journeys wisely.
WCE anticipates a significant increase in traffic flow following the balik kampung movement and holiday travel, with more than 150,000 vehicles expected daily during peak travel days throughout the period.
To ensure smooth traffic flow and user comfort, WCE will implement various operational readiness measures. This includes the temporary suspension of all construction and maintenance works involving lane closures along the highway, except for unforeseen emergency works.
In addition, assistance assets such as tow trucks will be stationed at strategic locations along the highway alignment. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) and patrolman will also be reinforced to ensure assistance can be provided promptly on a continuous 24-hour basis. These proactive measures are aimed at ensuring any road incidents can be handled efficiently while minimising disruptions to the main traffic flow.
As part of efforts to enhance a smoother travel experience, users are encouraged to utilise the latest version of the WCE mobile application, which provides route
navigation, facility location information (including EV charging stations, motorcycle shelters and emergency telephones), Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistance as well as real-time traffic updates.
Digital journey planning is further enhanced through the full implementation of the Touch ‘n Go PayDirect system across all WCE toll plazas, enabling toll charges to be deducted directly from users’ e-wallet balances without the need for manual card reloads.
Complementing its digital facilities, WCE also continues to provide comfortable physical infrastructure for highway users, including six (6) Rest and Service Areas
(R&R) equipped with basic amenities such as parking areas, surau and restrooms.
Food stalls are also available at selected locations, namely at the Sungai Nyior R&R (northbound and southbound) and Bukit Kapar R&R (northbound). In addition, laybys with basic facilities are available at every toll plaza.
This was further emphasised by WCE Highway Managing Director, Lyndon Alfred Felix, who advised the public to remain vigilant throughout the festive travel period.
“During this period of high traffic movement, we advise all users to plan their journeys ahead of time and prioritise safety at all times. With the support of digital facilities and operational preparedness, WCE remains committed to ensuring a safer and more efficient travel experience.WCE wishes all highway users a Blessed Hari Raya Aidiladha, Happy Wesak Day and a safe holiday period. Please drive carefully,” he said.
As a guide for a safer and more comfortable journey, WCE also advises highway users to observe the following measures:
- Ensure vehicles are in good condition before starting the journey.
- Adhere to the speed limits and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.
- Ensure all passengers wear seat belts and that child restraint systems (CRS) are used where appropriate.
- Ensure sufficient balance in e-wallets or Touch ‘n Go cards, especially for PayDirect users, to avoid transaction disruptions at toll plazas.
- Practise courteous driving, patience and mutual respect among road users.
- Take adequate breaks at R&R areas or laybys to avoid fatigue and the risk of micro-sleep.
The WCE mobile application is now available for free download via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Users are strongly encouraged to check current traffic conditions through the CCTV feature available in the application before starting their journey.
