Kuala Lumpur, 16 May 2026 – Taman Tugu today hosted the second instalment of its signature People Library programme, bringing together environmental advocates and members of the public for discussions on biodiversity conservation in conjunction with KL Festival 2026.
First introduced in 2019, People Library serves as a community-driven knowledge-sharing platform where stories and lived experiences are shared openly with the public. Held within Taman Tugu Nursery, the programme continues to encourage learning, dialogue, and community engagement within an urban forest setting.
Titled “Biodiversity in Action: Stories from Forests to Oceans”, this special edition was organised in conjunction with the International Day for Biological Diversity and aligned with KL Festival’s focus on public participation and meaningful community experiences.
The session brought together diverse voices working across different ecosystems from the forests to the oceans. The session featured a distinguished lineup of speakers actively contributing to the protection and preservation of Malaysia’s biodiversity.
Among them were Puteri Noorlela Bahrun, Certified Arborist at Raintree Arborist Sdn Bhd; Lara Ariffin, Co- Founder and President of RIMAU, and Dr Natasha Zulaikha, Co-Founder of Coralku Conservation.
The speakers shared their personal journeys and on-the-ground experiences in conservation as the participants get insights on the realities of environmental advocacy and the importance of protecting our interconnected ecosystems.
Building on the theme of safeguarding natural habitats, Lara Ariffin drew attention to wildlife conservation efforts, particularly the urgent need to protect Malaysia’s endangered tiger population and preserve forest ecosystems under increasing pressure.
Extending the conversation to marine environments, Dr Natasha Zulaikha shared insights into the realities of coral reef degradation and the ongoing restoration initiatives aimed at revitalising marine ecosystems.
As meaningful dialogues are shared and exchanged during the session, People Library continues to strengthen environmental awareness and foster great appreciation for biodiversity conservation among the wider community.
Opened in 2018, Taman Tugu is a 66-acre urban forest park and a not-for-profit initiative dedicated to environmental conservation, community engagement and public well-being.
