KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 – Felda United FC failed to take advantage of playing on home ground when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Petaling Jaya (PJ) City FC in their opening Super League match at Stadium Tun Abdul Razak in Jengka tonight.
After a goalless first half, Muhammad Ariff Farhan beat the PJ City FC defence before scoring in the 47th minute to put his team ahead.
However, the joy of ‘The Settlers’ was short-lived as former national defender Mahali Jasuli caught the Felda United defence off guard to score after receiving a short pass from a free kick in the 74th minute.
In a match between two newcomers in the top league, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Sabah played to a goalless draw at the Kuala Lumpur Football Association Stadium in Cheras.
However, PDRM are at the bottom of the table with minus two points after being docked three points by the Football Association of Malaysia for failing to settle their salary arrears problem.
In the Premier League competition, hosts Penang beat Sarawak United 4-2 at Stadium Bandaraya.
Imported Brazilian striker Anselmo Arruda Da Silva was the hero of the team when he scored two goals in the seventh and 40th minutes. Penang’s other two goals were scored by Mohammad Amer Azahar (36th min) and Endrick Dos Santos Parafita (53rd min).
Sarawak United reduced the deficit through Iranian import Milad Zanidpour Mansour (43rd min) and Brazilian striker Patrick Ronaldinho Wleh (63rd min).
At Stadium UiTM in Shah Alam, in a clash of two feeder clubs, Terengganu FC II scored a 1-0 win over Selangor 2, thanks to Ghanaian import Jordan Mintah who scored off a pass from Bruno Junichi in the 80th minute.
Newcomer Kelantan United FC also collected their first three points with a 1-0 victory over Perak II at the Manjung Municipal Council Stadium.
The winning goal was scored by Fakhrul Zaman Wan Abdullah Zawawi in the 84th minute.
