A Singaporean man unintentionally becomes a hero after planning to bring his family for a holiday. The unsung hero rescued five teens drowning at Tanjung Balau Beach.
As reported, the forty-five-year-old man named Xie was strolling at Tanjung Balau Beach. It was morning on the 9th of September when he and his family drove to the beach after arriving too early at the Adventure Waterpark. As the waterpark was not yet opened, he killed some time at the beach.
Xie and his wife recalled seeing about thirty to forty people screaming at the beach. They realized that they were also people in the water — drowning.
The people on the beach did not do anything. Thus, Xie immediately jumped into the water, intending to save the teens. According to Xie’s wife, her husband used to play water polo, therefore, he was confident in saving the teens’ lives.
Three of the teens in the water were holding onto a life buoy while the two others did not. Xie rescued the two first — a boy and a girl.
The teens found a boat
While Xie was doing his part in the water, the people on the land found a small boat. Some of them headed toward the water with the boat, using wooden planks as they could not find any oars.
A boy and a girl were rescued after they were pulled out of the water with the help from Xie and the other teens. The boy was unconscious, but a teen tried to resuscitate him. Meanwhile, Xie jumped into the water to save the other teens.
Luckily, three girls were saved by Xie, while the boy was later sent to a hospital.
A girl was swept by the current
While Xie thought everything was fine, he learnt that there was another girl swept by the current. Xie was disappointed and guilty for not noticing the girl. Nevertheless, his wife told him that he had done his best.
Shin Min Daily News did not state the condition of the girl.
The currents at the beach are known to be strong. Besides that, the case of people drowning in the area is not uncommon.
