A man, age 21- years old has been arrested by police in Germany because planning to attack Muslims. As said by the prosecutors on Monday, the plan was inspired by the 2019 mosque shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The man from the northern city of Hildesheim previously had announced his attack plans ‘in an anonymous internet chat’.
Further investigations show the suspect has been considering the idea of committing the attack for some time. It is believed that he wanted to kill many people in order to attract worldwide media attention.
“His aim was to kill Muslims,” said the prosecutors.
The suspect also said that he wanted to carry out a similar attack like the March 2019 mosque shootings in Christchurch which killed 51 people in two mosques.
He was arrested on Saturday and faces charges of threatening to commit criminal offenses and financing terrorism through the purchase of weapons.
Through the suspect’s home, police have found weapons and even electronic files containing right-wing extremist content.
