For those who do not know, November 26 is the date where the legendary singer Salmah Ismail or better known as Saloma received the Biduanita Negara (National Songbird) award in 1978.
Interestingly, Saloma was the first woman in Malaysia to receive the award at that time. Born in Singapore in 1932, she is best known for her singing talent where she has a melodious voice.
For honoring Biduanita Negara Saloma, here is a list of her five popular songs that many Malaysians remember to this day.
1) Saloma – Selamat Hari Raya
This song was recorded in 1955 and sung by Saloma. The lyrics of this song were written and composed by Ahmad Jaafar. ‘Selamat Hari Raya’ is one of the songs that are synonymous with the Aidilfitri celebration in Malaysia. Interestingly, this song also remains popular as one of the Hari Raya songs remembered to this day.
2) Saloma and P.Ramlee – Joget Malaysia
It is a song sung by Saloma with her husband, Tan Sri P. Ramlee. The song is featured in one of the scenes in the film ‘Ragam P.Ramlee’ released in 1965.
3) Saloma – Bila Larut Malam
Another popular song sung by Saloma is ‘Bila Larut Malam’. The song was performed in one of the scenes from the 1962 film Labu Dan Labi directed by Tan Sri P. Ramlee.
4) Saloma – Selamat Pengantin Baru
One of the Saloma songs remembered by Malaysians to this day. This song was performed in one of the scenes of the movie ‘Madu Tiga’ directed by Tan Sri P. Ramlee in 1964. This song became popular because it is often used during a wedding ceremony in Malaysia.
5) Saloma – Malam Pesta Muda Mudi
The song was performed in one of the scenes of the film ‘Nasib Do Re Mi’ directed by Tan Sri P. Ramlee and was released in 1966. Interestingly, this song is not only popular but also remembered due to the scene of the film featuring an old man named Pak Maon who is too enjoy dancing while following the rhythm of this song.
