Still Thirsty After Drinking Water? These Three Possible Cause of Excessive Thirst

As you know, our body needs at least 8 glasses of water a day to keep the body hydrated. About 60 percent of our body system is filled with the H2O needed to perform various bodily functions.

Lack of water can disrupt the body’s electrolyte balance and result in weakness, fatigue, dehydration, dizziness, or headache. Have you ever felt thirsty even after sipping a few glasses of water? If so, there are several possibilities that may cause you to experience such things.

Here are some causes of excessive thirst.

1.  Spicy or Salted Food Intake

Excessive consumption of spicy and salty foods can be one of the reasons why you will feel very thirsty. In addition to thirst, you will most likely sweat, fatigue, lack of sleep or may even cause dehydration during exercise.

2.  High carbohydrate intake

If you consume carbohydrates in large quantities, then you may feel a constant thirst. This is because carbohydrates absorb more water than fat or protein.

3. Stress

Stress can affect the function of the adrenal glands which can lead to low blood pressure. Chronic stress can be associated with thirst, anxiety, and extreme fatigue. Stress also leads to improper diet and sleep leading to unhealthy lifestyle and illness. Therefore, the only effective way to quench your thirst is to manage your stress levels.

How to Reduce Thirstily?

Add certain foods to your diet that can help maintain your hydration balance. Fruits and vegetables that contain water along with certain nutrients can quench your thirst better than just water.

Avoid taking these foods in your diet:

  • French fries
  • Instant noodles
  • Sugary drinks
  • Caffeine
  • Soy sauce
  • Biscuits

Replace this food with fruits such as watermelon, tomato, pineapple, plum, celery leaves, spinach, cucumber, and others. You can also drink lemon or cucumber water as well as mint water to replenish the nutrients and water lost in the body.
