Inspirational Story: Young Artist Infused Malaysian Culture With Disney Princesses Through Drawing

Malaysia has a wide variety of different cultures in one particular place and each culture brings its own uniqueness to the table that every Malaysian should be proud of. The uniqueness could come from every aspect such as food, culture, heritage, design, and especially traditional dresses.

There are so many traditional dresses such as the baju kurung and baju melayu, cheongsam, saree and many others. In fact, every culture and each state has its own unique traditional dresses that are very beautiful and outstanding. That is why this creative Malaysian artist named Farah Lina Daim decided to infused these Malaysian traditional dresses with various Disney Princesses. She posted them on the Art of FarahDaim Facebook page.

In her posting, she stated that these drawings had taken almost three months to complete. She had spent two of those months just sketching to make sure that she got the vibe right for each of the princesses. It is worth noting that she mixed and matched features from different costumes along with their original Disney costumes.

When we ask how did she get the inspiration to do these drawings, she said “I’m always a Disney fan, and I also love our local traditional dress and I always wanted to see the Disney princesses wearing our traditional outfit so I simply combine my two favorite things”.

She said that she felt really glad when she discovered that people liked her art. She also mentioned in her Facebook posting that it is a must for everyone to always support the original artists by sharing directly from their page and not from other pages.

She also answered, ” Yes, many requests for Disney heroes to be dressed in traditional dresses. Some also suggest Sailor Moon in local dresses. We’ll see” when we asked whether she is going to do more of these fusion characters of drawing with other characters.

Despite the gorgeous outcomes of the drawing that she posted, she also has to face several difficulties and challenges while she made the particular drawings. She stated, “One of the challenges would be to getting the right Disney look and also to maintain the Disney ‘vibe’ even though they are wearing the traditional dresses”.
