Knowing Wet Wrap Therapy (WWT) For Eczema

Do you know what is Wet Wrap Therapy (WWT)? According to Dr. Wan Syazween Lyana, shared on @MedTweetMY Official, WWT is an initiative to reduce the itchiness because of eczema.

Anyone with eczema or parents who have children with eczema can apply this method. If you still do not know how to do it, follow these simple steps:

Step by step for WWT

1) Prepare tight clothes

  • Dr. Syazween recommended tubifast garments. Tubifast can be bought from the any pharmacy, clinic, and even online.
  • If you do not have tubifast, worry not, as you can use cotton clothes. For instance, you can use cotton pajamas. Nevertheless, make sure that the clothes are not loose. If possible, find a smaller size of clothes than you or your children usually wear.
  • Make sure to have two sets of tubifast or cotton clothes. One set is for the wet set, and another set is for the dry set. If possible, prepare four sets of tubifast or cotton clothes, so that when the two sets are being washed, you still have two other sets.

2) Wash-up

  • You can apply steroid cream to the affected area.
  • Make sure the cream used is not too strong. Use mild to moderate potency.
  • Remember to apply the cream only on the affected area.

4) Soak tubifast or cotton clothes in lukewarm water and cover the affected area

  • After soaking the tubifast or cotton clothes in lukewarm water, dry them until it is damp. This will be the first set which is the wet set.
  • Then, you may cover the affected area that has been lotioned with the first set. This is to ensure moisturization on the skin.

5) Apply the second set (dry-set) on the damp set

  • Next, use the second set, which is the dry set to cover the first set.

6) All done!

Good to know

WWT can be applied for 24 hours straight. Dr. Syazween advised to begin WWT at night when it is time for bed.

If you find the garments beginning to dry, take out the second set (dry set) and spray lukewarm water on the (wet set). Then, you may cover it back with the dry-set.

Aside from that, do not apply steroid cream all the time. If there is no inflammation, you do not need to apply the cream. But if you must, make sure not to use it for more than fourteen days.

Dr. Syazween also advised not to do this therapy if there is a sign of infection like pus, etc.

You also do not need to worry about buying tubifast or cotton clothes frequently. You can wash and reuse them again. However, make sure not to use any soap or anti-bacterial soap when washing. Lukewarm water is enough.

Easy, right? Now, you or you children do not have to suffer from itchiness anymore! This therapy helps a lot!
