The Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR) announced through a press conference that the voting date for the General Election (GE15) has been set for Saturday, 19 November 2022.
Meanwhile, the SPR also set the nomination date for 5 November 2022, which falls on a Saturday. As for early voting, it is set for 15 November 2022, which is Tuesday.
The EC held a special meeting today to determine the voting and nomination date for GE15 after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat on 10 October.
The dissolution of the Dewan Rakyat was made after receiving the approval of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on 10 October.
Three states namely Perlis, Pahang and Perak under Barisan Nasional (BN) also announced the dissolution of their respective State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to enable State Elections (PRN) to be held simultaneously with GE15.
While three states under Pakatan Harapan (Nigeri Sembilan, Penang & Selangor) and three states under PAS (Kedah, Terengganu & Kelantan) did not dissolve their respective state assemblies.
The other four states, namely Melaka, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak, do not need to dissolve their state assemblies because they have just implemented PRN. Sabah held PRN in September 2020, Melaka and Sarawak in November and December 2021 while Johor held PRN last March.
