Jaya Grocer, Malaysia’s home-grown supermarket chain today officially opened its newest outlet at Toppen Shopping Centre in Johor Bahru. The new store marks Jaya Grocer’s fifth outlet in Johor, reinforcing the brand’s presence in the state and commitment to bringing fresh, high-quality groceries closer to local communities – now covering a network of 54 outlets nationwide.
The launch saw the presence of YBhg Tuan Mohd Masni Wakiman, the District Officer for Johor Bahru; Jaya Grocer Chief Executive Officer Daniel Teng and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Joseph Teoh; as well as Ikano Centres’ Commercial Director Sabrina Caserta and; Toppen Shopping Centre’s General Manager Sergey Aristarkhov.
The opening of this new Jaya Grocer branch in Johor strengthens partnerships with local business networks and suppliers, building on ongoing collaborations with various suppliers across Johor. For example, its partnership with FarmByte since 2023 to source fresh produce directly from local farmers supports local agriculture and empowers the earning potential of farming communities in the state. The farm-to-shelf approach – part of Jaya Grocer’s commitment to maintaining global standards in its retail operations, ensures peak freshness in produce while reducing the carbon footprint resulting from long-distance transportation. The new store will also offer additional employment opportunities for residents of Johor Bahru.
“The opening of our Toppen Shopping Centre outlet affirms Jaya Grocer’s vision to be the preferred choice for fresh, quality groceries in Malaysia. As the leading online-to-offline retailer, we continue to provide customers with a wide variety of goods from local and international sources at fair and accessible prices, in a modern, clean and well-organised environment, in line with our brand philosophy. This store is designed to give Johor Bahru residents a convenient and enjoyable shopping experience, while introducing exclusive products and maintaining the standards our customers expect,” said Daniel Teng, Chief Executive Officer of Jaya Grocer.
“We welcome the expansion of Jaya Grocer’s network in Johor with this new outlet in Toppen Shopping Centre. Since 2023, FarmByte’s collaboration with Jaya Grocer has broadened sales opportunities for our local farming community – contributing to Johor’s economic growth, creating employment, and strengthening the connection between businesses and the community in the longer term. We look forward to growing this partnership, and remain keen to explore new opportunities for working with various industry players to uplift the livelihoods of local farmers and further transform Malaysia’s agrofood sector,” remarked YB Dato’ Mizan Yahya, CEO of Kulim Agrofood Sdn Bhd / FarmByte Sdn Bhd.
Part of the Grab ecosystem, the Toppen Shopping Centre outlet also offers exclusive deals through the Jaya Grocer Membership programme, as well as online shopping via GrabMart, like other Jaya Grocer stores. Integrated with the Grab app and GrabRewards programme for added convenience, Jaya Grocer Membership enables customers to earn and use GrabRewards points during shopping.
Shoppers can also look forward to exclusive product launches under Jaya Grocer’s growing private label range, as well as the results of unique collaborations between GrabFood Signature merchants and Jaya Grocer. A delicious example is the transformation of Secret Recipe’s popular Chocolate Indulgence Cake into a one-of-a-kind ice cream flavour crafted by Inside Scoop. All products from the private label range and collaborations with GrabFood Signature merchants are exclusively available in Jaya Grocer stores nationwide and on GrabMart.
Capping its latest achievements, Jaya Grocer was recently recognised as Malaysia’s Supermarket of the Year at the 2025 Retail Asia awards.
