China Markets Actively Selling Animals As Victory Over Coronavirus?

“Terrified dogs and cats crammed into rusty cages. Bats and scorpions offered for sale as traditional medicine. Rabbits and ducks slaughtered and skinned side by side on a stone floor covered with blood, filth, and animal remains.”

As reported by Daily Mail, these are worrying scenes today as China celebrates its ‘victory’ over the coronavirus by reopening the meat market that was the turning point for a pandemic start three months ago without a clear attempt to raise hygiene standards to prevent future outbreaks.

As can be seen, a pandemic that started in Wuhan forced countries around the world to be locked down. A Daily Mail correspondent on Sunday saw thousands of customers go to a large closed market in Guilin, southwest China.

Here, cages of different species are piled on top of each other. At another meat market in Dongguan, southern China, another journalist took a picture of a seller who returned to the business on Thursday with a billboard ad.

The shocking ‘scene’ comes after China has finally stopped imposing sanctions on the nation and encouraging people to return to normal life for the betterment of the economy. Official statistics show almost no new infections.

“Everyone here believes the outbreak is over and there’s nothing to worry about anymore. It’s just a foreign problem now as far as they are concerned,”

“The only difference is that security guards try to stop anyone taking pictures which would never have happened before.”
