I am sure by now you all heard the name Khairul Aming, the popular internet celebrity chef and influencer,
Known for his “30 Days 30 Recipes” videos that he posts during Ramadhan every year and his signature sambal brand ‘Sambal Nyet’, you must have surely come across the name ‘Khairul Aming’ at some point.
Recently, on his 30th birthday, Khairul Aming shared a 5-minute video on his social media platforms on how he become the person that he is now.
The story of Khairul Aming or his real name Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, has touched the hearts of Malaysians across the country.
From being an unknown oil and gas engineer to the Khairul Aming that he is today, his journey is something that people can take inspiration from.
University life
Khairul Aming managed to further his studies at Vanderbilt University where he studied engineering. During his time there, he found his love for video making. He bought a camera and improved his video-making skills.

Khairul Aming even managed to win first place for “International Travel Video Content” and also became the president for the Malaysian student association at the university. He graduated with honours with a degree in medical engineering.
Work life
At only 23-years old, he started his work life in the oil and gas industry. However, he later on changed his profession and moved into logistics. This is where he learnt a lot about business.

He increased his knowledge on exporting and importing, taxes, finances, and how to blend oil together.
Side income businesses
With all of the knowledge that he had gotten, he decided to try to find a way to make any side incomes that he can. In spite of all those knowledge, the first few side income business that he started did not manage to get a foothold.
This changed when he decided to make videos of him cooking and uploaded to his Facebook called “Rasapop”.

Over time Rasapop gained popularity, obtaining over 500k followers in just a few years. Now it has over 1.6 million followers. During that time, Khairul Aming decided to make his own product called “Sambal King”. Sambal King is the predecessor to Sambal Nyet that we know and love today.
Nevertheless, the start of Sambal King did not manage to catch the attention of the public. In the end, he had to stop making the product and start from the bottom again.
The start of Khairul Aming
Khairul Aming decided that he did not want to use the Rasapop name for his videos, instead he opted to go by the name Khairul Aming. He posted cooking videos that he loved to make and built up his brand name.
He forced himself to show his face in his videos and build his confidence up. His short cooking videos was able to catch the attention of many Malaysians for its simplicity and likeability. This paid off in the end.
As day go by, he gained more and more followers on his Instagram, managing to get over 3.5 million followers there. Not only that, his Twitter and TikTok also has over 1 million and 2 million followers respectively.

Slowly and steady, Khairul decided to reintroduce back Sambal King, now rebranded as Sambal Nyet. His decision was not in vain as Sambal Nyet grew and has now sold over 1.2 million bottles on Shopee.
What to come next for Khairul Aming
Khairul Aming is fully focused on the future. With his eyes all set on the opening of his second factory and media house, he is ready for any challenges that he will face.
He also wants to do more meet-ups with his followers and thank them for their never-ending support. Recently, he did sold his Sambal Nyet at KPTM Kuantan which attracted a lot of people to come.
