Is Your Favourite Brand Actually ‘Green’ or Just Greenwashing?

Can you spot which brands are truly sustainable? A green-coloured box or a “plant-based” label isn’t enough. Don’t let the green impostors fool you.

These eco-illusions are usually known as ‘Greenwashing’. It happens when companies give their products a sustainable makeover and sell them at an overpriced cost. It’s like paying extra for minimal ecological benefits. You think you’re saving the planet, but really, you’re just saving their profit margin.

But no worries now! With some knowledge, you can learn to spot the real environmental heroes and support brands that truly make a difference.

Is It Green Inside & Out?

1. Keep an Eye for Official Labels

In Malaysia, companies that follow ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) guidelines are verified by experts. Look out for official logos such as FSC, SIRIM QAS, or Elite Asia.

Always double-check the brand’s official website for ESG reports or details. Authentic sustainable companies proudly display their impact because if it’s real, there’s no reason to hide it.

2. Transparent Supply Chains

Genuine sustainable brands are transparent about the origin of used materials and the manufacturing processes to build authentic connections with their customers.

If a brand is vague about its sources or refuses to share details, that’s a red flag. They might be hiding environmental or labour issues behind that glossy “eco” campaign.

3. Clear Communication

Credible companies provide factual, clear explanations of their environmental practices. For example, you can search for the company’s progress in maintaining ecosystem sustainability occasionally on their official page.

Be your own eco-spy. Check their website once in a while for real updates on how they manage waste, energy, or materials. It’s better to see action than to hear buzzwords like “eco”, “natural”, and “clean” floating around with no proof.

From Awareness to Action, ESG in Motion

Malaysians are falling for ESG charms! More brands began to care for nature, society, and ethical governance. A fun way to inspire youngsters to do good and make the future awesome.

Conscious Choices, Cooler Future

You don’t need to be an ESG expert to make a difference. By learning how to spot greenwashing and supporting brands that show real proof of sustainability, you’re already doing your part.

Clever marketing is cool but genuine eco-action? Way cooler.

So next time you’re shopping, ask yourself: Is this truly green… or just green-looking?
