New Study Proves 15-Minutes “Awe Walk” Can Boost Positive Emotions

People have been finding ways to improve their emotions nowadays as we are living in a fast-paced world. Sometimes when we are too focused on our working life, we forgot to give a little bit of space for our inner self to refresh.

Most of the people who forgot to take care of their inner selves tend to become emotionless and pay no attention to their own life. The worst-case could lead to depression. Fortunately, researchers found a very simple way to boost positive emotions in us.

A new study shows that taking a 15-minutes “awe walk” each week can improve our mood. “Awe walk” is where we make a stop to appreciate nature while walking. Giving a little time to look at nature is something that most of us had taken for granted. We were surrounded by nature every day, yet we forget that their presence meant a lot to us.

The aim of the research was to find a convenient, low-cost intervention to improve brain health. Profesor Virginia Sturm from the University of California, San Francisco said that taking a moment to look out at the window can give a sense of connectedness with the world around us.

The research was conducted on 52 adults. Half of the participants were asked to do the “awe walk” for 15-minutes each week for eight weeks. They have to pay attention to every detail in nature and have a sense of wonder in them. Another half was the controlled group.

At the end of the experiment, the participants were asked to fill out surveys to assess their emotions. They also needed to take selfies before, during, and after the experiment was conducted. Researchers analyzed that participants who went for an “awe walk” have a greater smile on their selfies.
